Low water Ebro.

Post by BillPalmer on Wed Oct 19, 2011 2:18 pm

Been back from the Ebro now for a couple of weeks, when i fished the the river was very low. Struggled, every one running about trying to find some water to fish. Managed a few fish last day with cats to 118lbs and carp to 42lbs, running the baits out 200yds in the lake at Caspe. Just noticed on facebook the swim i was fishing is a lot lower still, guides are asking for guys to come over and they would pay there fares to look after there swims at night. You can walk over the river in some spots, the Ebro only a few inches deep.Sad

Fished a bit higher up mate, we only fished for 4 days. A couple of the swims were giving up some nice fish but the swim we were in did not have a lot of water. The first day we had some small cats, my best fish being a 39lb carp. Moved into a different swim for the next two days with a bit more water, with no bait going in there it was hard work. Again only small cats and a few carp, my best 84lb cat. Moved down to Caspe for the last day, it was packed out, but managed a few nice fish.

Hi Tone, yes had some nice carp, guys in the next swim had a 62 mate. It was a bit disappointing for the the two lads i went with, they had not been before and i had talked it up big time. I was looking forward to see them in pain as a big cat trys to pull them in. Ron one of the guys was really up for it, coming all the way down from Scotland to fly with us out of Stanstead. Only to find he had the wrong passport ( the wife's ), then having to go back half way to meet up for his one. Mind it did not put him off, he wonts to go back for the carp fishing later this year. I was going to go back myself but with the river very low Tone, i will wait and see if it gets the water it desperately needs.

There's a good depth of water in the Riba Roja stretch, but the weed is still heavy from the dam down to the road bridge. Was out a few weeks a go. plenty of cats to 60llb were coming from the bank, but we found some better fish in 40+ feet:

They take some hauling up from that depth (The rods are 6 lb tc Harrisons!):
